Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Vehicle Testing
According to the Council's Taxi Licensing conditions, a vehicle presented for licensing as a Hackney Carriage or Private Hire Vehicle shall be in a suitable condition to the satisfaction of the Borough Council’s Inspector.
- Vehicles under 6 years old must be inspected and licensed annually
- Vehicles over 6 years old must be inspected and licensed at 6 monthly intervals
The six year rule applies to all vehicles.
Normally the age of the vehicle will be calculated from the day of its first registration at the DVLA.
The Environmental Service undertakes these road worthiness inspections on behalf of the Council.
