Bench boost for village hall
Blackwater councillors have presented a cheque for £800 towards the cost of a new recycled plastic bench outside Wellow Village Hall through a Councillor Community Grant.
The bench is aimed at those who may need a break while using the hall for one of its many activities that it hosts throughout the year.
The funding, through the grant scheme at Test Valley Borough Council, has enabled the bench to be put in place. The two-metre bench itself is made of recycled material, with a concrete base having been laid and the bench secured to it.
Borough councillors Nick Adams-King and Gordon Bailey presented the cheque to Phil Stenner, Chairman of Wellow Village Hall Committee.
Councillor Bailey said: “The village hall is also home to Wellow Parish Council and is such a vital part of the community.
“It’s used by all ages, and it’s great to be able to help towards this bench for those in need of a break. Having it made out of recycled materials also goes to show that being environmentally friendly is always at the forefront.”
The Councillor Community Grant scheme helps to fund community-led initiatives.
Councillors allocate funds to projects that they identify as meeting a need in the community based on feedback from residents.
