Successful prosecution after fly-tip in Chilworth
Test Valley Borough Council has secured another fly-tipping prosecution as it looks to continue its clampdown on those dumping waste illegally.
The council’s covert cameras recorded Justin Wood, of North Baddesley, as he dumped plywood and shelving on Roman Road in Chilworth in October 2017.
Throughout the summer, around £14,000 was ordered in costs and fines through the courts for fly-tippers after action from the council.
Environmental portfolio holder, councillor Graham Stallard, said: “Once again this has been a hugely successful case for Test Valley Borough Council. This particular incident was caught using our covert cameras, which shows how effective they can be in catching fly-tippers in the act.
“We have a zero tolerance approach to fly-tipping and this case serves as a warning to anyone who is planning on dumping any waste in our borough – we will not tolerate it and we will take action.”
Wood admitted the charge in court earlier this month, and was given a custodial sentence for his crime.
The council is taking this opportunity to encourage everyone to report any fly-tips they find.
