Annual canvass
Households in Test Valley will have received a letter last month, asking them to check whether the information that appears on the electoral register for those living at their address is correct.
This is part of the annual voter registration canvass carried out across the country at this time of year. The purpose of the canvass is to make sure that the electoral register is up to date and that people do not miss out on their right to vote.
The Council has already received 70 percent of responses but it is important to confirm that the details it holds are correct. Canvassers will be visiting properties that have not yet responded to the household enquiry forms from 17 September to 22 October 2018. They will carry identification with them and be able to assist with taking the relevant information to ensure that the Council’s electoral register is accurate and complete.
The authority will send final reminders from 31 October. If there are changes to be made, such as removing previous residents or adding any new ones, including anyone now over 16 years old, or even if all the details remain the same, the Council needs to know before then.

Residents will need the two part security code printed on their letter to access these services. Anyone who is unable to use these automated options should complete and return the form in the pre-paid envelope provided. Residents are asked not to return the form if they have completed the process using one of the automated options.
If there are updates to any household, the information provided will enable the Council to send a separate individual registration form to all the people living at that address who are eligible and need to register. Those who are eligible can also register online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.
