The fit-out has started as leisure centre opening nears

The first set of state-of-the-art exercise equipment for the new Andover Leisure Centre has begun to arrive ahead of the doors opening to the public next month.

The equipment has now started to arrive, including apparatus for the sports hall ahead of the opening on April 1.

Featuring swimming pools, sports halls, squash courts and the gym, the new leisure centre will replace the former centre situated next door.

Leader of Test Valley Borough Council, Phil North, has thanked Pellikaan Construction and the architects, Roberts Limbrick for their work as the opening date nears. Together with the work of officers and leisure contractor Places Leisure, the new facility has been delivered in the town centre for residents to enjoy on time and on budget.

Councillor North said: “One of my pledges was to deliver a fantastic high quality leisure centre that would meet the needs of residents across Andover, as well as those who will no doubt come from further afield to make the most of these facilities.

“It’s very exciting seeing the first of the brand new equipment arrive and I’m very grateful for all of the hard work that has gone into this facility. It was not easy ensuring we could deliver this right in the centre of the town, but in doing so on time we are taking the next step together for Andover.

“Alongside the new leisure centre we have also been able to deliver a brand new Changing Places facility and we’re all looking forward to the development of the Town Mills Riverside Park project as our regeneration plans push on.”

The centre will be managed by Places Leisure on behalf of the council and will offer a range of programmes and activities.
