Responsibility for Roads

Motorways and trunk roads (M27, A303, A34 and A36) are the responsibility of Highways England based in Dorking (information on major road works) -  All enquiries 0300 555 1388  Most other roads in Test Valley fall to Hampshire County Council as the Highway Authority.


Test Valley Borough Council acts as an agent for the County Highway Authority for traffic management (“new parking restrictions including loading and unloading), and for Highway development management.

For routine road sweeping, some grass cutting and action on fly-tipping refer to the Street Scene Manager of TVBC.


Private roads are generally maintained by the residents who live there.

Public Involvement

Local residents are consulted about major schemes and informed about minor ones. This may be achieved by way of letters to occupiers in the immediate vicinity of proposed work, by public notices displayed in the vicinity and by advertisements in local papers.
