Millie’s Story

Taking on an apprenticeship at school leavers age has really given me the opportunity to progress and feel part of a team. I chose to do an apprenticeship because I wanted to gain the experience of being in an office environment, and I felt I wanted to start something new where I could become more individual and be treated maturely. TVBC are determined to give their apprentices the best journey possible within the council, and are motivated to continuously help them expand their skills, by offering countless new opportunities.

The best part about my role is the variety of tasks I get given to complete, making everyday here new and exciting. When I am in the office, I am often sending letters or emails out to customers about specific circumstances, working with third party companies, making internal phone calls, or updating our system with new information. On other days, I may be going to internal meetings, attending sessions within Hampshire with apprentices from different councils , or attending college one day a week where I am working towards my qualification.

Depending on the apprenticeship role you take will determine how your college course will work. For my apprenticeship, I attend a college class one day a week where we complete work that goes towards our qualification. It is refreshing to have one day in the college as I can focus more on my work with additional guidance from my tutor, and make new friends who are in a similar position to me. TVBC help me towards my qualification by giving me new experiences in different areas that I can use both towards my qualification and for my own benefit, and allowing me time within working hours to complete work for my qualification. My work colleagues have supported me by supplying resources, providing any feedback / suggestions, and giving me the time and space to complete work.

I would recommend to anyone to take on an apprenticeship for countless reasons, especially as they are for anyone of any age. Apprenticeships can help you to build the experience for any job, as well as a work towards a qualification. Also, it is a smart way to get back into the working environment, and be able to train / develop in new sectors.

I am still not completely set on what I want to do after my apprenticeship, but I do know I want to follow a career path and continue learning within the business administration sector.
