The County Returning Officer is John Coughlin at Hampshire County Council and more information about these elections can be found on their website.

Casting your vote safely during COVID-19

These elections will be like no other.  We are putting arrangements in place to help ensure polling stations are safe places to vote. You can expect many of the measures you have become used to over recent months in shops and banks, such as hand sanitiser, social distancing and the requirement to wear face coverings.  Guidance is still being developed, but electors are welcome to use their own pen or pencil in the polling station. We are working with Government, members of the electoral community and Public Health teams to help ensure polling stations are safe places to vote at the May 2021 elections.

Electors can of course choose to vote by post or proxy should they wish and we encourage electors to apply for these sooner rather than later where possible.  Further information on how to apply for an absent vote can be found further down the page.

Register to vote

In order to vote in these elections, you need to be registered on the Register of Electors and you must be:

  • Resident in the Test Valley area on the date of the election;
  • A British, Irish or Commonwealth citizen, or a citizen of a member state of the European Union;
  • 18 years old or over.

If you are an eligible elector and you are already on the Register of Electors for Test Valley, you do not need to re-register for these elections.  Information on how to register can be found here. The deadline for applying to register for voting in this election is Monday 19 April 2021.

Details of where your polling station is located will be found on your poll card, which will be sent out towards the end of March 2021.  Plans are already underway to ensure that electors can cast their vote safely in whichever way they wish, whether that is at the polling station, by post or by proxy.

Voting by post or proxy

If you are unable to get to your polling station on 6 May, there are different options available to you in order for you to cast your vote.  Details of dispatch dates will be updated here as they are confirmed, however we would encourage anyone who requires a postal vote to apply for one as soon as possible due to an expected increase in the number of postal votes being required for this year:
