South of Romsey Town Centre Masterplan

The area south of Romsey town centre was identified in 2013 in the initial Romsey Future consultation as a priority; it is not currently a fitting gateway to our historic market town.

Romsey is already in a uniquely strong position with high occupancy and a supportive community. With how we use our town centres transforming, this masterplan shows that Romsey can adapt and succeed; with all of the Masterplan proposals designed to support our town centre and showcase its hidden assets such as the waterways. Once complete the result will be an exciting new quarter in this part of the town boasting new homes, restaurants and space for community and leisure uses.

Through listening to our residents, leading local experts and a groundbreaking exercise in local democracy, Romsey Future, together with consultants Nexus Planning and Perkins + Will Architects, has produced a Masterplan for the regeneration of this area of Romsey and delivering on the aspirations of our community.

The document proposes short term public realm improvements, medium-term mixed-use development with new housing, community and leisure uses alongside a new and improved transport hub with no loss of current conveniences; while in the long term the plan is for the relocation of the Aldi supermarket with the current site being redeveloped for employment and leisure use.

The masterplan was approved by the Council on 2nd September. This link takes you to the meeting agenda and minutes
