Adam’s Story

Apprentice Adam
Adam doing vehicle maintenance

As an apprentice, working for Test Valley Borough Council (TVBC) is amazing as everyone that you work with is very caring and takes a lot of care of you. I chose doing an apprenticeship because I am able to learn about the job I am doing and also be able to earn a good wage as here at TVBC its £6 an hour for an apprentice. In my apprenticeship I am working on vehicles such as bin Lorries and mowers, this means there is a wide variety of jobs I am able to do during a work day. I enjoy that all my colleague were very easy to get along with and feel comfortable around. Also it is very different to college as you have more hours but are earning money also you are able to have experience with job you would be studying for at college, so having an apprenticeship is a lot better than going to college. And it is also great as TVBC helps me with my qualification as they allow me to have as much time as need to do my college work and a my other work needed for HAP meetings etc. HAPs make my experience a lot better as they evolve me in more activities outside of work such as team building exercise and project management courses. I would recommend apprenticeships to other people as it prepares you for the future as it can lead to a job but most importantly it gives you a lot of experience. It gives you a lot of new knowledge and skills doing an apprenticeship apposed to going to college as you are straight to the job. After the whole apprentice scheme has ended I would like to work full time if not at TVBC then else where.
