What you need to do before you can vote
Register to Vote
To be able to vote your name must appear on the Register of Electors. If you are not registered to vote then you can apply online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.
Further information about registering can be found here, including finding information about whether you are eligible to register and when your details will appear on the published register.
Ensure that you have photographic identification
From May 2023, you will be required to show photographic identifcation at the polling station before you are issued with your ballot paper. For more information on what identification will be required and how to obtain identification if you do not currently have any, please see our Voter ID FAQs.
