Information for Pension Age Residents
What happens if other adults (non-dependants) live with me?
In most cases, a deduction will be taken from your Council Tax Support in respect of a non-dependent. The amount of the deduction depends on yours and their circumstances.
Non-dependant deductions are not deducted from your Council Tax Support if you or your partner are:
-
registered blind, or
-
in receipt of Attendance Allowance, or
-
in receipt of the care component of Disability Living Allowance, or
-
in receipt of the daily living component of Personal Independence Payment, or
-
in receipt of an Armed Forces Independence Payment
Non-dependant deductions are not deducted from your Council Tax Support if one of the following applies to the non-dependant:
-
they are a full-time student
-
they are a member of the armed forces away on operations
-
they are in receipt of Income Support, Income-Related Employment Support Allowance, Income-Based Job Seekers Allowance or Guaranteed Pension Credit
-
they are in receipt of Universal Credit, which doesn’t include any earned income
In all other cases, the following deductions will apply based on the non-dependant’s income and circumstances.
