Do I Need Building Regulations?
Building Regulation permission is required to ensure, as far as the local authority are able, that all construction work complies with the minimum standards set by the Government.
Building Regulations ensure that an acceptable standard of health and safety is provided for people in and about buildings. They also require adequate access and facilities for disabled persons as well as specifying measures to control energy and waste.
Building Regulation permission is required for most building work. For example:
- New Housing
- Commercial Developments
- Extensions
- Garage Conversions
- Loft Conversions
- Cellar Conversions
- Structural Alterations e.g removal of load bearing walls
- Alterations to Drainage, Hot Water or Heating Systems
- New or Replacement Windows
- Electrical Work
- Replacement Roof Coverings & Solid Roofs to Conservatories
- Cavity Wall Insulation
- Garages
You can apply for Building Regulations permission in the following ways. Detailed explanations and application forms can be found on the left hand side.
