Public Art Commission – Statues of HRH Queen Elizabeth II
The Romsey Statue
In Romsey, the statue, which will eventually be cast in bronze, will depict the young Queen Elizabeth II in her Coronation Regalia, with her Robe of Estate depicting elements of artwork and memories contributed by local people.
The piece will reflect the late Queen’s connection with Broadlands, where she spent her honeymoon, and her position as Defender of the Faith and Supreme Governor of the Church of England.
Residents were recently invited to share their ideas and memories as part of the mayor's garden party by painting mini canvases and artist Amy Goodman is working on the clay sculpture in her studio. Local pupils have also had the opportunity to work directly on the clay, assisting with 'lumping on' and adding detailing to one of the robes.
