Damp And Mould In The Home

Information for tenants

If you think your property has penetrating or rising damp you must report this to your landlord. If there is a leak then contact them urgently as this will need to be repaired to prevent further issues.

If you think you have a problem with condensation and you have followed advice on this webpage then you must report this to your landlord.

First let your landlord know about the issues. This should be in writing, but you can contact them by phone or text first to discuss it with them.

Your landlord should investigate or send out a suitably qualified person to investigate on their behalf. If they do not, or choose to take no action, then you can contact Private Sector Housing for assistance using the contact details on this page.

If you live in a Housing Association property and they do not carry out the necessary repairs, you should use the Housing Association’s formal complaints procedure. Details of this should be on their website or provided to you by your Housing Officer. If you do not get a satisfactory response, you have the option to complain to the Housing Ombudsman.
