Cupcake pop-up whisks its way to the Chantry Centre
Family-run business, The Travelling Cupcake, has opened the doors to its new pop-up shop in the Chantry Centre, having secured a three-month lease with Test Valley Borough Council.
Taking residence at unit 58, next to Warren James jewellers, the shop offers a wide range of kitchenware, bakeware and festive goods, along with a tempting selection of handmade cakes.
The business is already well established in the town, having started as a pop-up shop in 2013 before relocating to Bridge Street. They later took over Lucy’s Kitchen on the High Street.
Owner of The Travelling Cupcake, Beverly Botha, said: “Since opening our first shop, we have been incredibly grateful for the support from our customers and we’re so pleased to have the opportunity to open a pop-up in the Chantry Centre. We hope everyone will find a lovely selection of gifts and homeware in store, just in time for the festive season.”
The council launched its easy in, easy out occupancy agreements for prospective tenants back in July, to enable businesses and groups to test the water by renting empty units in the shopping centre on a short-term basis, so they don’t have to commit to lengthy leases.
As well as filling vacant shops, the authority hopes that this will give a platform for businesses, groups and those offering local services to raise their profiles in the town.
A Test Valley Borough Council spokesperson said: “We are delighted to welcome The Travelling Cupcake to the Chantry Centre. This is a great new addition to the centre’s current retail offering and we wish them the very best in making this a success.”
