Winning card chosen to send to Her Majesty The Queen
The winner of a competition to send a Platinum Jubilee card to Her Majesty The Queen on behalf of the mayor has been announced following a ceremony at her school last week.
Pippa Lyons, 10, from North Baddesley Junior School was selected by the previous mayor of Test Valley, councillor Mark Cooper, alongside former deputy mayor, and now mayor himself, councillor Alan Dowden.
Entries came in to Test Valley Borough Council from children and schools all over the borough after the competition was launched earlier this year. The winning entry will now be made into a card and sent to Her Majesty The Queen on behalf of the mayor and residents of Test Valley.
Other entries are also on display in Andover and Romsey, with many in a window display at Andover’s Chantry Centre, and the Former Magistrates Court in Romsey.
Mayoress councillor Celia Dowden announced Pippa as the winner at a school assembly last week.
Councillor Dowden said: “I’m extremely pleased to have been able to tell Pippa the good news. Her design is brilliant and captures everything there is to love about Her Majesty and Test Valley.
“A huge well done to Pippa and I hope she’s just as pleased as we are that it will be sent to Her Majesty to commemorate her 70 years on the throne. I’d encourage everyone to see the other entries we received as it was definitely a tough choice, and I’d like to thank those who spent time on their creations.”
