A community musical variety show has taken centre stage thanks to a Test Valley Borough Councillor community grant of £250.
Organised by Anton Rotary Club and featuring local musicians and vocalists, the event boosts mental wellbeing for local residents. It also offers audience members the opportunity to feel a part of something worthwhile with all profits going to help patients at the Countess of Brecknock Hospice.
The council funding was used to cover printing costs for the fundraising event, which were minimised by combining the tickets and programmes for the night. The funding means that as much of the money raised on the night as possible can be donated to the Hospice, rather than going towards covering the costs of the event.
Cllr Iris Andersen, local councillor for St Mary’s Ward, said:
“I, along with the other ward councillors Jan Budzynski and Debbie Cattell, was delighted to help with the costs of this fantastic fundraising event. Our younger and older generation have really got talent when it comes to singing and all the people that sang in the choir at St Mary’s Church were beautiful to hear.
“As well as showcasing the stars of the show, the team was also able to thank all their sponsors in the programme, making it a valuable addition to the evening.”
The Test Valley Borough Councillors’ Community Grant Scheme exists to support local people in establishing their own priorities and to deliver local solutions to local issues. It also aims to encourage community-led initiatives, supported by borough councillors who can play an active part in helping their communities deliver their ambitions.
Not-for-profit, charitable community groups and organisations can apply to the Councillor Community Grant Scheme for a grant up to two-thirds of the cost of their project or activity, up to a maximum of £1,000.
