Residents Invited to Shape Public Art at Picket Twenty
A new public art installation is set to bring history to life for the residents of Picket Twenty, inspired by a significant archaeological dig conducted on the estate in 2017.
The dig uncovered a collection of ancient pottery, revealing glimpses of the area’s rich heritage - a discovery that has now shaped the designs for a piece of land art including a circular bund, bespoke bench, and mosaic to create a space in nature for residents to stop, notice, lean and play.
Commissioned by us and created by art production practice Sum.Place, the project blends history with modern design to create a welcoming space for the community to enjoy. The project is being funded by developer contributions.
Now, residents are being invited to help shape the final mosaic artwork by voting for their favourite design.
Councillor Chris Donnelly said; “I’m delighted that this last piece of art is now due to be installed in Picket Twenty. I was very impressed with the designers, who have a track record of engaging and relevant pieces.
“This new work will provide another place to play, relax and reflect in our community. It is really exciting to see a real sense of identity and distinctiveness coming through at Picket Twenty and this will compliment that perfectly.”
Voting is open until 31 March with designs available to view online and via QR codes displayed around the estate.
