Grant gives Andover children’s salon a fresh new look
A popular children’s hair salon in Andover has been transformed with the help of a town centre frontage grant from Test Valley Borough Council.
J4K, run by Sharon Liquorish at 76 High Street, received just over £12,000 to install a new timber shopfront and signage, improving the appearance of the listed building.
Sharon opened the salon in 2018, but by this year, parts of the shopfront had deteriorated and needed replacing. The grant supported a full refurbishment of the frontage, while Sharon also refreshed the interior herself.
The work was carried out by local businesses, with the shopfront created by Whitchurch-based JLS Carpentry and Build Ltd and the signage designed by Andover firm Re-Design.
Sharon Liquorish said: “I’m so grateful for the grant; it gave me the push I needed. Because I received help for the shopfront, I’ve been able to redo the interior myself, and all my customers love it.”
Councillor Phil North, Leader of Test Valley Borough Council said: “This is a great example of how our frontage grants are helping businesses invest in their premises and improve the look of Andover High Street.
“These improvements help make the town centre more attractive to residents and visitors, supporting local businesses and boosting the local economy.”
The Andover Town Centre and High Street Shop and Frontage Grant was developed by Test Valley Borough Council in collaboration with Andover BID and Andover Town Council. Each project is led by the business, with the grant supporting improvements to enhance Andover town centre. This aligns with wider regeneration plans to increase footfall, support local businesses, and strengthen the local economy. The scheme is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, which aims to improve pride in place and increase life chances by investing in communities, local businesses and skills.
