Village Design Statements Guidance

Village or Town Design Statements are documents that describe the characteristics of an area and what makes it unique and different.

Produced by residents with support from the council, they provide guidelines to developers to make sure that new development reflects the village or town’s character.

On this page under documents, you will find our local guidance information, and national guidance from Natural England, about how to produce and adopt a Village or Town Design Statement. You will need to read and follow both guidance documents when preparing your VDS.

You will find information on other community planning options in our Community Planning Toolkit.
