Apprentice Stories

Nicola, Building Control Surveyor (Degree Apprenticeship)

Nicola Building Surveyor Degree Apprentice

I work in the Building Control, Planning & Building Service whilst studying BSc (Hons) Building Control Surveyor (Degree Apprenticeship) which is online based learning through University. My key job responsibilities include enforcing the compliance with Building Regulations for construction work, technical guidance, plan checks and site inspections.

Test Valley Borough Council is friendly, supportive, fun, provides good opportunities to progress and training provisions, has good teams to work with in your own department as well as others.

I chose to do an apprenticeship as my course was suitable and available for what I wanted to do in a new job role. I am gaining new skills and knowledge in building regulations and key legislation.

Test Valley Borough Council support me with my apprenticeship by allowing me to have the study days for online lectures, time to write the assignments and providing training on the job.

I would recommend apprenticeships to other people as they provide good training opportunities and a chance for qualifications. After my apprenticeship, I want to excel at my current job role and use the new qualification to become a Chartered Surveyor.
