Information for Working Age Residents

What is counted as income?

The only income included in our calculation are:

  • Earned income from employment

  • Earned income from self-employment

  • If your capital is between £6,000 and £16,000, a tariff income will be applied

All other forms of income will be disregarded from the calculation.

How will my earned income be calculated?

If you are in receipt of Universal Credit, we will use your earned income as calculated by them. If you are self-employed and subject to a minimum income floor, we will use the minimum income floor as your income.

If you are not in receipt of Universal Credit and employed, we will calculate your average income from your payslips. We can usually get this information directly from the Department for Work and Pensions but may ask you to provide copies of your payslips.

If you are not in receipt of Universal Credit and self-employed, you will need to provide proof of your earnings. We may also apply a minimum income floor to your earnings.
