Damp And Mould In The Home
Tips on managing moisture build up in the home
Moisture is generated by a variety of normal living activities. In order to try and reduce the levels of moisture you can try the following tips:
Wipe away condensation build-up on windows and wring out the cloth and avoid drying on the radiator
Use a humidity reader to monitor the humidity and aim to keep levels under 70%
Use a dehumidifier when humidity is high
Avoid drying wet washing indoors on radiators
Use a vented tumble dryer
Hang washing outside if the weather is dry (washing will still dry in cooler temperatures)
If you must dry washing indoors, hang it in one room with the door closed and use a clothes airer (using a dehumidifier will also help)
Reduce moisture in the bathroom
Switch on the extraction fan
Use cold water first when filling the bath to reduce steam
Squeegee moisture off tiles after a shower
Close the bathroom door when showering/bathing
Open the window after showering/bathing
Keep pans covered when cooking on the hob
Close the kitchen door during cooking
Switch on the extraction fan
Open the window during cooking
