Be a Councillor
How much time will being a Councillor involve?
How much time you spend on your duties as a councillor is largely up to you and will depend on the particular commitments you take on. In addition to sitting on one or more of the Council's committees such as Planning, you may also be nominated as the Council's representative on an outside body. If you are a member of a political group you will also be expected to attend meetings of that group.
It is important that councillors are aware of local issues and concerns. This means being visible in the ward, knowing the issues that people are concerned about, and being contactable in person, by telephone, email or letter.
