Fly tipped waste

Costs of almost £2,000 after Andover fly-tip

An Andover woman has been ordered to pay almost £2,000 after dumping a mattress and other waste in King Arthur’s Way.

The successful prosecution by Test Valley Borough Council saw Donna Ryall admit two counts of illegally depositing her waste at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court at the end of January.

A handbag, sacks of waste and a box full of rubbish was dumped alongside a double mattress. Following an investigation by council officers, Ms Ryall admitted the charges.

Ms Ryall was ordered to pay a £200 fine, a £30 victim surcharge and the full amount requested by the council in costs, which was £1,578.50.

Environmental portfolio holder, councillor Graham Stallard, said: “Everyone needs to dispose of their rubbish responsibly. It is the environment that you live in that is being tarnished by this irresponsible and selfish crime.

“There are many waste disposal areas and recycling centres around the borough and there really is no excuse. Anyone who needs to get rid of large items can contact the council for either advice or our services.

“Please think twice before deciding to illegally dump your waste. If it is your rubbish, then it is your responsibility.”
