Exciting Eco Event to launch Andover’s Climate Day of Action
Andover residents are invited to join Andover’s Climate Day of Action 2022 and attend a special eco event.
Taking place tomorrow (Saturday 24 September), The Great Big Green Pop Up event will open in The Chantry Centre between 9am to 3pm, featuring lots of different activities, talks and a special eco market. The event will support the Climate Day of Action, which falls on Friday 30 September this year, by highlighting the importance of the climate emergency and promoting ways in which Andover residents can reduce their carbon footprint, live more sustainably and help to protect our environment.
On the day a dedicated pop-up shop, located next to Waitrose will host a series of activities. Between 9am and 11am, visitors can bring in broken items to be repaired by volunteers of the Andover Repair Café, listen to specialist talks between 11am and 12.30pm from Andover Trees United, Southern Water and Andover Men’s Shed and children can spend the afternoon taking part craft workshops.
A special eco market will feature local organisations selling eco-friendly products, providing information and running hands-on activities. The market will be located in the central areas of the shopping centre between 9am to 3pm.
Families can enjoy playing upcycled games, such as miniature golf, provided by the Men’s Shed in the indoor garden area next to Boswell’s Café. A unique needle felting workshop will also take place in Unity Art Studios at 11am and 2pm, with demonstrations on how to repair fabric such as knitwear.
The pop up event launches a full week of activities including bat walks, orchard planting and a vegan market organised by partner organisations, as well the official Climate Day of Action on Friday 30 September. This year’s events coincide with The Great Big Green Week, which is a national event organised by environmental organisation The Climate Coalition, celebrating community action to tackle climate change and protect nature.
Chair of Andover Vision, councillor Phil North, said: “Following the success of last year’s event Andover Vision and partners will be expanding our efforts this September, joining forces to promote the importance of climate change.
“The pop up event in the Chantry Centre will feature a really good mix of activities that will appeal to all ages and show different ways in which we can all do our bit to help the environment. I hope everyone gets the chance to attend some events during the week and take away some important and insightful tips and information.”
