Local people find work at Romsey jobs fair
A recent jobs fair was held in Romsey by Jobcentre Plus, in partnership with Test Valley Borough Council. Around 120 people attended, with over half securing follow ups, interviews, trial shifts and new job roles.
Jobcentre Plus worked alongside Romsey’s Business, Events and Tourism Officer to contact employers and make sure there was representation from a variety of job sectors. From construction to retail and health and care to insurance, a range of local and national employers came along, creating a real buzz.
One employer said: “Today has been amazing, we’re so impressed with the calibre of candidates.”
As well as employers, the event was attended by training and support organisations to help people take steps towards work. One candidate, who became very overwhelmed on the day, was directed to Choices and signed up for their local employability course, designed to help people overcome barriers with confidence and anxiety issues. Totton College also signed up four people for local apprenticeships.
Suzi Shilling, Business Events and Tourism Officer at Romsey Town Council said:
“This is the first event we’ve organised on this scale and the feedback from businesses and attendees was extremely positive. It is great to work in partnership to help our community and we’re looking forward to the next one which will be in the new year.”
Cllr Nick Adams-King, Cabinet Member for Romsey, said:
“One of our key priorities as a council is helping our communities to thrive and helping people to live fulfilled lives. One key way we can do this is to help businesses to find the right candidates, and individuals to secure employment. This event has been very successful in doing this.”
