Celebrate a fusion of culture at Andover’s World Street Party

Andover will be celebrating its culture and diversity at a brand-new event this summer.

Taking place on the bank holiday Monday 26 August, between 12pm and 5pm, the party will see Andover High Street bursting with activities and entertainment.

The event has been developed in partnership with Test Valley Borough Council, InAndover from Andover BID, Test Valley Arts Foundation, Hampshire County Council and Chapel Arts Studios. The new event will bring together residents from local communities and backgrounds and showcase different cultures.

On the day visitors can look forward to watching some colourful performances from groups including African performers, Bollywood dancers and Morris dancers.

Members of the Ukrainian community will be marking Ukrainian Independence Day, which takes place a few days before the event on 24 August, with some traditional performances and talks.

There will be family-friendly workshops to get involved in, such as drumming and dancing and creative sessions and there will be some interactive storytelling taking place throughout the day.

Visitors can also look forward to tucking into authentic street food with Jamaican dishes, South African cuisine and freshly prepared sushi available to buy.

In the lead up to this event, residents have been working with local artists to put together some decorative banners to tell the stories of their journeys to and from Andover and their experiences of living in the historical market town. The banners will be on display at the event for visitors to see and find out more about the people living in the town.

Leader of the council, Cllr Phil North said: “Andover is incredibly rich in culture and this new event is a great way for us to celebrate our local communities. The day will be packed with music, performances and workshops and I hope that everyone who comes along will have a great time immersing themselves in the lively atmosphere.”

Monday 26 August, 12pm to 5pm, Andover High Street.
