Romsey Young Carers receive £2,000 boost from councillors to support vital work
Romsey Young Carers have been awarded a £2,000 Multi-Ward grant from Test Valley Borough Councillors to support their ongoing work helping young people who care for family members.
The funding from Ampfield & Braishfield, Chilworth, Nursling & Rownhams, Valley Park, North Baddesley, and Blackwater wards, will go directly towards projects that give young carers the chance to take a break, build confidence, and connect with others who share similar experiences.
Romsey Young Carers provides a safe and supportive space for young people balancing their own lives with the demands of caring for a loved one — a role many take on from a young age. The charity runs regular group sessions, activities, and wellbeing projects, all aimed at reducing isolation and giving these young carers a chance to just be children.
Chris Hall, Manager at Romsey Young Carers, said; “This funding will make a real difference to the young people we support. It means we can continue to provide activities, workshops, and vital emotional support for carers who often put their own needs second.
“This grant comes at a really important time for our charity when funding is becoming increasingly hard to access for many reasons. This coincides with the growing numbers and level of need that we are seeing as a service. Grants like this really make a difference and allow us to respond to those needs.
We’re incredibly grateful to the councillors who have recognised the importance of what we do and helped secure this grant.”
Blackwater Ward Councillor Nick Adams-King, praised the work of the charity; “Romsey Young Carers are an important part of our community, offering a lifeline to so many young people. Their dedication and compassion are inspiring, and we’re proud to support them in any way we can. This grant is just a small way of helping them continue the brilliant work they do every day.”
Abbey Ward Councillor Nik Daas, added; “Romsey Young Carers is a wonderful organisation that provided our young people must deserved respite from the duty they undertake caring for their loved ones.
These young people show incredible strength, and the charity provides the support they need to thrive in the future. I am very pleased Romsey Councillors have been able to provide some funds towards this continued work and long may it last.”
