Tender launched to appoint design team for South of Romsey Town Centre regeneration
Test Valley Borough Council has launched a tender process to appoint a team of architects, engineers and other specialists that will help shape the future of the South of Romsey Town Centre.
The team will lead on the design of this major regeneration project, which includes a brand-new community facility, bus station, public plaza, green space and a decked car park. This follows the extensive feasibility work and community engagement that the Romsey Future partnership has already undertaken.
Councillor Neil Gwynne, chair of Romsey Future, said: “This is an exciting moment for Romsey. We’re now formally inviting design teams to come forward and help us bring this long-term vision to life. The community has shaped the priorities for this project from the start, and today’s step brings us closer to delivering the new spaces and facilities people have told us they want to see.”
This next phase in the design of the scheme builds on the significant engagement that the Romsey Future Partnership and the council have already carried out, including sessions with young people, workshops with community groups and discussions with users of the town’s current community facilities. That work has shaped a brief focused on accessibility, sustainability, flexibility and high-quality public space.
Councillor Phil North, leader of the council, added: “Residents, businesses and community groups have already played a key role in getting us to this stage, and they will continue to do so as the project progresses. This is a really exciting time for Romsey and it’s vital that we appoint the right people to help bring the regeneration of the South of Romsey Town Centre to life.”
It is anticipated the successful team will start work in January 2027. Further engagement with the community on the design of the scheme will be undertaken prior to the submission of a planning application.
