Competent Persons

 

Competent Person Schemes (CPS) were introduced by the UK Government to allow individuals and enterprises to self-certify that their work complies with the Building Regulations as an alternative to submitting a Building Regulations applications.

A Competent Person must be registered with a scheme that has been approved by The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG).

The most common schemes are listed below. A list of all Competent Persons can be found on the Competent Persons Register (link at bottom of page).

FENSA and CERTASS Replacement windows
GAS SAFE Installation or alterations to gas, hot water or heating systems
OFTEC Installation or alterations to oil burning boilers and appliances
HETAS Installations or alterations to solid fuel burning boilers and appliances
CIGA Installation of cavity installation
