Statement of Community Involvement (SCI)
The purpose of the Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) is to set out the consultation measures that the council will undertake when consulting on planning policy documents and publicising planning applications.
The SCI complements the council’s broader commitment contained within its corporate plan with regards to promoting positive community engagement with local communities, businesses and interest groups. The preparation of an SCI is a legal requirement and once adopted, the council needs to be consistent with its content.
The SCI was adopted by the council’s cabinet on 18 January 2023 following a period of public consultation. It is the fifth SCI that has been produced, with previous versions prepared in 2006, 2009, 2013 and 2017. On 17 June 2020, the council’s cabinet resolved to revise the Statement of Community Involvement to add an addendum relating to temporary revised consultation arrangements whilst coronavirus restrictions were in place. This has been incorporated into the revised SCI 2023. The new SCI document is available on this page.
On 29 May, 2024, the council’s cabinet [ (Public Pack)Agenda Document for Cabinet, 29/05/2024 17:30 (testvalley.gov.uk) Item 10] resolved to revise the Statement of Community Involvement to add an amendment to paragraph 11.12 to reflect the Town and Country Planning Act (1990) (as amended) on notifying parish councils of amendments to planning applications. The change has now been included in the SCI 2023 document which is available on this page.
