Event Litter Bins
If you are organising a local fete or pop-up event for your parish or community group, you can hire our event litter bins for a small charge.
We are here to help and to also offer advice. With a bit of planning, you can help your event reduce its waste and maximise its recycling:
Reducing Waste - waste prevention is the first step:
- Include waste reduction messages in the organisation and promotion of your event. Everyone should be reminded to take responsibility for their own waste e.g. bring your own reusable bottles and bags, take your items home for recycling etc.
- Commercial sellers of food and drink should take responsibility for any waste produced as part of their business, such as providing litter bins.
Maximise Recycling - some recyclable items will be left behind, so other arrangements will be needed:
- Glass bottles and jars (and their metal lids), can be taken to the nearest glass bank - for your nearest local recycling centre click here
- Drinks cans and plastic bottles can be recycled in your kerbside brown recycling bin
- Clean and dry cardboard and paper can be recycled in your kerbside brown recycling bin.
Any single-use cutlery, cups or plates cannot be recycled - place these into the event litter bins.
Reusing waste - there are a range options for books, clothes, shoes, DVDs etc.:
- Take the items to a charity shop
- Take any clothes and shoes to a textile bank - for your nearest local recycling centre click here
- Sell them on an online auction website in support of the event’s charity
- Arrange for a charity to collect any unwanted items after the event
- Contact a house clearance company.
Event Litter Bins
Event litter bins are only available for temporary, pop-up community events within the Test Valley Borough Council area.
The service is chargeable. The Council will deliver and collect up to 10 x 240 litre event litter bins for £92 + VAT, based on a weekday collection/delivery. We do not supply any other litter bin sizes.
We reserve the right to inspect/reject any waste that does not meet our requirements. All waste must be contained within the event litter bins.
The enquiry form must be completed at least one month before the event, otherwise we cannot guarantee we can provide the service.
