Apprentice Stories
Liam, Grounds Maintenance Apprentice, Now Grounds Maintenance Operative
I chose to an apprenticeship, as I was looking for a career change, and wanted to do something that I am passionate about, with an apprenticeship, I can get the hands on experience, and the qualification at the same time. This really works well with how I learn and develop my skills.
Working for TVBC as a grounds maintenance apprentice has been a fantastic experience, I have been welcomed and supported throughout my work, and, gained valuable training, not only in my job role, but in ‘life skills’ also. As a Grounds maintenance apprentice, I help to look after and maintain the green open spaces throughout Test valley, from working in the local Green Flag awarded Parks, to maintaining the Shrubs and hedges all around the area
At the moment, I am enjoying getting training and experience to use tools safely, from hedge cutters, to strimmer’s, and rotavators. It’s different to doing the course at college as I get to work full time in my field, where I am trained and mentored on the job from professionals with multiple years of experience, and also spend 1 day a week at college on day release, where I study for my qualification. The best bit about it, is that I get to work as part of a team, with different individuals who have all got experiences in different sectors, and, are always willing to share these and help me develop.myself.
TVBC give me all the time and support that I need to get through my college course, as working full time and studying for a level 2 in Horticulture can sound over whelming.
