Trees

The Arboricultural staff process applications which are required if works are proposed to trees covered by a Tree Preservation Order or in a Conservation Area. They also provide advice on tree issues in planning applications.

If you would like to submit an application to carry out works on Trees subject to Preservation Orders or in a Conservation Area please use the forms below.

Trees in a Conservation Area

In Conservation Areas, it is a requirement to give the Local Planning Authority six weeks' notice before carrying out works on or felling any tree over 75mm in diameter (or 100mm if the works are being carried out to improve the growth of other trees), as measured at chest height (1.5m) i.e., above any basal flare or stem taper and below any branch union swells. This gives the Authority the opportunity to consider the making of a Tree Preservation Order.

Tree Inspection and Preservation

Tree inspections will be carried out when a threat to retention exists. Tree Preservation Orders will be served in appropriate cases. There are approximately 1000 in Test Valley.

Tree Preservation Orders

Tree Preservation Orders (TPO) may apply to any tree, group of trees or woodlands that make an important contribution to public amenity. Prior to any works being undertaken to a tree that is subject to a TPO, written consent must be applied for and granted by the Council. To find out if a tree, or group of trees, is protected please email planning@testvalley.gov.uk
